Carbon’s Derek Hillam leaped to a state title in the long jump Friday afternoon during the first day of the 2018 UHSAA State Track and Field Championships at BYU.
Hillam jumped 21 feet five inches to claim the 3A title, nine inches in front of second place. Fellow Dino Carson Frame took fifth in the same event. Carter Fausett finished in seventh.
Freshman Emma Christensen jumped 4’11” to take a fourth place finish in the high jump.
Carbon will be right back at it Saturday for day two of the state championships in Provo.
