The Carbon Lady Dinos hosted their last round of golf before state playoffs at the Carbon Country Club on Thursday. Down by 32 strokes to Providence Hall in region standings, Carbon knew it would be a long shot to overtake the Lady Patriots.

That did not derail the Lady Dino’s hopes, however, as they put up their best performance of the year. Carbon won with a combined score of 370 with Providence Hall in second with a 383 score.

“We won the battle, but lost the war. It was a long shot, but the girls gave it a go. We won by 13, but needed 32,” commented head coach Kenji Otani.

Abbie Labrum, from Union, had the fewest strokes of the day with 79, followed by Shayla Patton (Delta) with 80 and Carbon’s Sam King with 86. The Lady Dinos all shot well as Jordan Bianco, Rhiannon Timmons and Aubrey Fausett rounded out the top four with scores of 89, 95 and 100, respectively.

Otani commented on his girls’ effort and accomplishments.

“In region standings, we had four in the top 10. Jordan Bianco third, Sam King fifth, Aubrey Fausett sixth and Rhiannon Timmons ninth. Also, Jessica Hansen and Sam King made Academic All-State. I’m a proud coach! Now, it is all about state,” Otani said.

Carbon will now turn the page and prepare for state, which begins on May 7.
