The Carbon High Football team used late interceptions and a furious offensive rally to overtake the Union Cougars in Roosevelt on Friday night.
Daulton Nelson’s 8-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter put Carbon ahead to stay with only a few minutes remaining on the clock. Carbon escaped with a 17-13 victory, dashing Union’s hopes of a Homecoming Game victory.
“Last year we set a goal to turn things around at Carbon,” Dino head coach Jeff Blanc said. “We are a band of brothers and play that way out on the field.”
According to the Deseret News website, Carbon is 4-0 for the first time since 1951.
The Dinos led 10-7 after the first quarter thanks to a 25-yard field goal from Tanner Gagnon and an 11-yard touchdown pass from Dakota Cisneros to Nick Haycock.
Union took a 13-10 lead in the third quarter on a JJ Morley touchdown run, and the score stayed that way until Carbon’s impressive drive that put the game away.
Carbon will be idle this week as they prepare to host Delta Sept. 23. The game will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. on ETV Channel 10.
