Students at Huntington Elementary set a goal to read one million combined minutes this school year. On Nov. 22, students were treated to an ice cream float party for reaching the midway point.

According to principal Garth Johnson, the students have already read 648,249 minutes so far this year. “In order to get an ice cream float party, we set the goal at 500,000 minutes,” Johnson explained. “The kids have done better than that. Now, we are working on an activity for the 750,000 minute mark. Once they hit a million, who knows, maybe I will shave my head.”

Several students explained that reading every night is fun and does not seem like work at all.
