The streets of Helper have been getting busier than ever lately. With new additions, activities, businesses and more coming to Helper’s historic Main Street, it’s no surprise that many are interested to know what is coming.

Museum director Lenise Peterman presented a segment during Helper Library’s Ask the Expert titled “It’s Happening in Helper.” This segment was made for the sole purpose of informing all of what is to come.

The next big event that is coming to Helper will be on Saturday, June 17 when the band The Deltaz returns once more to the Rio Theater. The band has played in Helper on several occasions and has become a fan favorite. In March, they performed a concert that was also a fundraiser for the Helper Arts, Music and Film Festival.

Tickets for the upcoming concert will be $5 at the door. After that performance, the town will be primarily focusing on preparing for the Helper Arts, Music and Film Festival. The festival will kick off on Friday, August 18 and will run through the weekend, ending at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Helper is planning to work with USU Eastern’s theater department, which wants to present bad Shakespeare as a fundraiser for the school’s department. They will build an outdoor stage and sell old fruit that the attendees can throw at the actors during their performances.

The festival will bring back staples such as vendors, food and films. New this year will be the Dirty Art 5K and Fondo event that will take place on Saturday morning and is in conjunction with Carbon County Recreation.

Peterman also gave an update on the new additions coming to the Railroad and Mining Museum. Upcoming exhibits titled the Settlement Room and Immigrant Room are projected to open in September. There is also ongoing infrastructure improvements to the museum.

Many of the buildings on Helper’s Main Street are being purchased, renovated and will hopefully be put to good use before long.
