It was a career night for Emery’s Bowdie Jacobson on Saturday. Not only did he pour in a career-high 29 points, but he also led his team down the stretch to a 67-54 win over rival Carbon. Jacobson’s previous career high was 18.

In a back-and-forth first quarter, neither team led by more than four points and featured two ties and four lead changes. Carbon’s Brad Williams nailed two threes in the period and hit four total in the game for the second straight game. He finished with 17 points to lead the Dinos. Carbon held a 16-14 lead after one quarter of play.

Both teams again exchanged leads multiple times in the second before the Spartans went on a 7-0 spurt that included a Jacobson three and back-to-back buckets by Beau Roundy to give Emery a 29-23 lead with just under a minute to play in the half. Williams and Jacobson then traded threes with under 30 seconds to play in the half for a 32-26 halftime score.

The Dinos opened the half on a 4-0 run to cut the Emery lead to two, 32-20. The game would remain within five points in the period with Carbon cutting the Emery lead to one, 36-35, on a three-point play by Kyle Quinton at the 3:20 mark. The Spartans again went ahead before Anthony Maclean nailed a three to cut it back to two, 40-38 at 2:20. The period ended with Emery up 44-40.

After Mitch Olson hit a three for the Dinos at the 5:40 mark to get Carbon within three, 46-43, Emery was able to push back and build a lead that would hold for good. The Spartans took their first 10-point lead on two free throws by Jacobson with 57 seconds left in the game.

Koby Butler scored 17 points for the Spartans. Beau Roundy was able to reach double figures for the first time in three games with 11. Behind Williams’ 17 for the Dinos, Quinton finished with 14 points. Olson also contributed nine.

Both teams will begin region action next week with the Dinos (8-6, 0-0 Region 12) hosting Canyon View on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. and Emery (10-1, 0-0 Region 15) facing off against Grand on Wednesday in Castle Dale at 7. Both games can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10.
