The Carbon High School theatre department has grown in recent years with bigger productions and continuing upgrades. This year, the department is presenting the classic “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to the public.
There is a cast of over 75 people, including a children’s choir.
“The story is told completely with music,” explained director Steve Pay. “There is no talking and all types of music from different eras and genres are used.”
The musical is based off the story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Joseph is favored by his father, Jacob, and he give Joseph a coat of many colors. His brothers despise him and eventually sell him to Egypt as a slave. Joseph overcomes various obstacles and becomes favored of the Pharaoh.
“I hope for this production to be as successful as last year,” Pay said. “It’s hard to compete against a Disney production. But this show is every bit as good, if not better, than Beauty and the Beast.”
The play opens on Nov. 15 and will run five shows until Nov. 20. The musical will begin at 7 p.m. in the Carbon High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
