Local junior high rodeo athletes have been busy the past three weekends at six different rodeos. The Emery Junior High Club sponsored two rodeos in Hurricane while South Summit had the next two in Heber. The final weekend series was back in Hurricane, sponsored by the Southern Utah Club. All of the Emery Junior Club members placed among the top ten in their respective events during the six rodeos.

Kinlie Jensen – girls’ breakaway, Monty Christiansen – ribbon roping, Baylie Jacobsen – girls’ breakaway, Matthew Olsen – chute dogging, Josh Olsen – chute dogging and ribbon roping, Zeek Weber – boys’ breakaway and team roping, Race Gordon – boys’ breakaway, chute dogging, ribbon roping and team roping, Cole Magnuson – bull riding, chute dogging, tie down roping and ribbon roping.

Two team members finished with several firsts and are now ranked in the top ten of their events as well as all around status for the state. Graycee Mills had two first-place finishes in poles and one in girls’ breakaway. Byron Christiansen had four first-place finishes in saddle bronc riding and two in boys’ goat tying. Graycee is ranked sixth all around in the girls’ standings and Byron is first in the boys’ all around.

The Junior High Association has one more rodeo in Tremonton on May 18 and 19 and the following weekend is state finals in Heber City. The national competition will be in June. It has been moved from Tennessee to South Dakota this year.
