The Carbon Lady Dinos moved closer to clinching a region championship with a couple of road wins last week.
On Tuesday, the Lady Dinos went to Nephi to play the Juab Wasps. Carbon jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The second half was closer as Juab tried to make a comeback. Coming out of halftime with a 25-13 lead, the Lady Dinos were able to fight off the pesky Wasps to win 47-31.
Abbie Saccomanno led Carbon with 13 points, followed by Jodi Noyes with 11. Noyes was a force down low and secured 16 rebounds to give herself another double-double on the season. She also had four blocks in the contest.
Then, two days later, the Lady Dinos were back on the road to take on the Providence Hall Patriots. After doubling up the Lady Patriots in the opening quarter, Carbon did not surrender a point in the whole second quarter and only gave up five in the entire half. They went on a 15-0 run in the quarter to take a 25-5 lead into halftime. The Lady Dinos cruised to a 39-20 victory for their 11th straight win.
Jordan Bianco had a team-high 13 points, going 4-8 from beyond the arc. She also led the Dinos with five assists. Noyes had another good game with 12 points and five rebounds. Saccomanno and Makenna Blanc had seven steals each to account for 14 of the team’s 22 steals.
Carbon (16-2, 9-0 Region 14) only has one game left in January and it is on Tuesday at home against the Maeser Prep Lions (2-12, 0-7 Region 14). The game will be streamed live online. With only three games remaining, a Carbon win or a Juab (11-7, 6-2 Region 14) loss would clinch the Region 14 Title for the Lady Dinos.
