The Carbon High Lady Dinos dominated the Lady Spartans Tuesday night in Price, winning the contest 56-30.
Carbon dominated from the tipoff, outscoring the offensively challenged Spartans 18-4 in the first quarter. Emery made a small, 8-0 run early in the second quarter, but Carbon exploded for another 18 points in the third quarter to put the game away.
Miranda Averett led Carbon with 24 points and Rachel Scoggins added 10. Jeridi Price and Shaylee Stokes each scored eight points to lead Emery.
Carbon head coach Ted Bianco said he was pleased with all aspects of his team’s performance.
“Overall, I thought it was a good game for us,” Bianco said. “I thought our kids really took control early and kept control most of the game.”
Carbon poured in 22 field goals on the night and held Emery to just six. Eighteen made free throws produced the majority of Emery’s points.
Bianco credited his team’s defense for Emery’s struggles.
“[We] were really focused on getting steals and running the floor, and that really helped us a lot,” he said. “I was proud of our efforts and proud of how we played.”
The only thing Bianco wasn’t happy with was the crowd support during the rivalry game.
“I hope we get more people in our stands to come watch our girls play because it was a really fun basketball game,” Bianco said. “They play hard and work hard, and they deserve the support of the community just like any other team does.”
Carbon improved to 5-2 on the season. The team travels to Richfield for the 2A/3A Preseason Preview on Friday and Saturday.
Emery dropped to 1-5, losing five straight games after winning the season opener. Emery next hosts Beaver on Dec. 21.
The game was broadcast live on ETV Channel 10. A replay of the game will be broadcast throughout the coming weeks.
