The 3A State Volleyball Tournament moved to UVU on Tuesday to start the second round. #7 Carbon began its day against #10 Grantsville. The Lady Dinos found a groove in the first set and went on a 7-2 run to open their lead up to 12-6. Grantsville attempted make up the gap but could not in the end as Carbon won 25-21.
The second set went back and forth as it remained close. After being tied at 23, Grantsville secured the upper hand to win 26-24 and tie it at one set apiece. Again Carbon shot ahead, going up 7-2. The Lady Dinos let the Lady Cowboys back in it as they tied the game at 12. The teams swapped points until Carbon was able to lead 18-14 after a couple big blocks. Grantsville again had an answer and took three straight points to pull within one. The Lady Dinos finished the set as it started, with a 7-2 run, to take the set 25-19. ;
Grantsville did not fold under the pressure and worked its way into a 25-18 fourth set win to send it to a tie breaking fifth. In the decisive set, Carbon immediately went up two, only to let Grantsville score the next three to lead 3-2. The Lady Dinos then went on a 7-0 run, with three critical blocks for scores in that span. The Lady Cowboys showed resilience and pulled within two to make it 10-8. Carbon shut the door, winning the next five points with an ace and a happy birthday kill to win the set 15-8 and the game 3-2.
Later that afternoon, the Lady Dinos took on #2 Morgan. Carbon struggled to get things going in the first set and lost 25-13. The Dinos responded well early in the second set. They went up 5-1 and led by as many as seven (13-6). The Lady Trojans did not panic, however, and were able to tie the game at 14. Back and forth it went but Morgan eventually pulled away at the end with a 25-19 second set win. Carbon continued to battle hard in the third set, but never could find an answer to Morgan as it lost 25-21 to complete the sweep.
