The Carbon Lady Dinos notched five wins out of nine games over the weekend at a tournament in Clearfield. The varsity team competed against 3A teams as well as higher ranked teams throughout the state.
“I feel we probably should have went seven and two,” said head coach Christen Johnson. “We lost a couple games that, I thought if we played our best, we should have won. I was hoping for 7-2 but 5-4 isn’t bad.”
Johnson explained that despite the losses, the Dinos competed well against similar teams in the state.
“We did beat all the 3A teams we played,” Johnson explained. “I wanted to make sure that we beat the 3A schools because that is what matters down the road.”
Johnson was also impressed with seniors Sara Morley and Jordan Scoggins throughout the weekend tournament. Scoggins handled an adjustment from her usual position on the outside to the middle blocking position, which Johnson said resulted in many blocks.
“Morley is my outside hitter and she had an excellent hitting weekend,” Johnson said.
The team will now gear up to travel to Park City for a game on Tuesday, in which passing will be key to take a win.
“I am hoping that we can pass a little bit better,” Johnson said. “Our passing struggled sometimes this weekend. It seems that when we struggled with that we struggled as a team.”
Carbon will then host its first game of the season on Thursday against Layton Christian. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 6 at 5:30 p.m.
