After opening the season with two road victories, the Carbon High Lady Dino basketball team lost its home opener against Richfield on Tuesday.
Richfield won the game 44-40 by outplaying Carbon in the fourth quarter.
Carbon led 32-29 heading into the fourth, but the Lady Dinos couldn’t overcome a huge free throw disparity and 22 turnovers.
Richfield attempted 23 free throws. Carbon attempted two.
Carbon head coach Ted Bianco said his team didn’t give the same effort he saw against Emery last week.
“I thought the key for us was too many turnovers,” Bianco said. “It is hard to win against a good team with so many turnovers.”
Miranda Averett scored 16 points to lead Carbon. Amanda Freestone followed with 12 points.
The game was broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
The Lady Dinos next play in a tournament in Fruita, Colo. The tournament begins Thursday.
