Carbon participated in the Uintah Tournament over the weekend, which included four games in three days.
The Lady Dinos kicked off the tourney against 5A Springville on Thursday. It was a tight, low-scoring first half that found the two teams tied at 16. The Lady Dinos then allowed 20 points to the Lady Red Devils in the third quarter alone, more than doubling their score. Down 36-26 with one quarter left to play, Carbon attempted a comeback. It held Springville to just two points in the final period but ultimately could not overcome the deficit. The Lady Dinos fell 38-36 to Springville.
Abbie Saccomanno led the way with 15 points followed by Mekenna Blanc with 11. Blanc also recorded a team-high five rebounds and four assists. Carbon shot 32 percent from the floor in the loss.
On Friday, the Lady Dinos rebounded against 5A Orem. They were in control 18-3 after one quarter and 34-14 at halftime. Carbon cruised to a 60-37 victory over the Lady Tigers. Saccomanno again led the the team with 12 points. Jordan Bianco followed with 11 points and the two seniors each added six assists and five steals in the contest. Blanc pulled down eight rebounds and reached double-figure scoring, along with Cora Lamborn at 10 points apiece.
Carbon then took on the 6A Skyridge Lady Falcons of Lehi on Saturday morning. It was a close match that saw the Lady Dinos build a 21-13 advantage by the midway point. Third quarter trouble came back to bite them again as Skyridge outscored Carbon 17-7 in the period. Down by two entering the final quarter, Carbon fought hard but came up short and was defeated 45-40.
Blanc had a game-high 16 points. Saccomanno had another good showing with 11 points, six steals and four assists. Lamborn pulled down eight rebounds and Bianco recorded six steals. The Lady Dinos were held to 30 percent shooting from the field.
Carbon wrapped up the tournament against 2A Wasatch Academy later that afternoon. The Lady Dinos scored 15 points in the first and second quarters to go up 30-21 at half. They maintained their lead out of halftime and went on to take the final game of the tourney 50-37 to go 2-2 over the weekend. Bianco came alive with 21 points to lead all scorers. Blanc grabbed another eight rebounds and Diana Morley had a game-high three steals.
The Lady Dinos (3-3) were in each match and fared well against the tough competition. They will certainly build on this experience as the season progresses. Up next, they will take on Union (0-5) on Tuesday night. That contest will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 and online at etvnews.com.
