It has been a tough week for the Lady Dino softball team. It dropped a crucial game to Delta last week that took them out of a sure spot in the state tournament.

This afternoon it was sweet revenge as Carbon took the tiebreaker matchup 7-5 to grab the final spot in the tournament starting tomorrow.

Things looked bleak early when the Rabbits put up three runs in the third and then tacked on a pair in the fourth to go up 5-0. But Carbon’s Desi Lantz really put the spark in the Dinos with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Before the fifth was over Abby Robinson had smashed a two-RBI single to bring the Dinos roaring back into the game.

Jordyn Cave shut down the Rabbit bats for the rest of the game. Lacey Lambson smacked a double and Carbon remained hot as it plated three more runs across in the sixth to sew up the win and a trip to the big tournament.

Coach Kirk Nunley was excited by the power that came out of the freshmen on the team.

“The freshmen duo of Lantz and Robinson came through with huge hits to get the spark going,” he said. Nunley could not say enough about how ecstatic he and the team were for this win with the up-and-down season the team has had.

The Lady Dinos now have to take on Juan Diego at Juan Diego in the first round of the state playoffs tomorrow. The game will start at 10 a.m. They will face either Bear River or Pine View in the winner’s or loser’s bracket depending on the outcome of the games.
