Lady Dinos Go 3-1 in Weekend Tournament

The Carbon Lady Dinos went 3-1 on the basketball court over the weekend as the team notched three wins at the Shannon Johnson Tournament at Uintah High School. Carbon dominated against South Summit, Mountain Crest and Uintah, outscoring its opponents by a total of 72 points. The lone loss came in the first matchup of the tournament against Wasatch Academy.

A rally in the second half doomed the Dinos in the first matchup of the tournament. The Dinos led throughout the first, going into the half with a 30-27 lead. A slow third quarter put Carbon in the hole as Wasatch Academy outscored the Dinos 14-9. The fourth saw both teams in double digits but it was not enough as the Dinos fell 57-54.

Lady Dino Jordan Bianco had an impressive effort in the game, putting up 20 points, including six three pointers, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Abbie Saccomanno was also in double digits with 13 points.

Carbon’s first win of the weekend came against South Summit. The Dinos compiled an impressive 23-point win to notch their first win of the season.

The team’s were closely matched through the first three quarters, going into the fourth with Carbon in the lead, 32-25. The Dinos shut the game out in the fourth, putting up 22 points compared to South Summit’s six.

Bianco led the team with 14 points, five rebounds, five steals and one assist. Jodi Noyes and Kelsey Sorenson were also in double digits with 13 and 11, respectively.

Noyes exploded on Saturday as she led the team to another win, this time against 4A Mountain Crest. The junior recorded a double double with 22 points and 17 rebounds to go along with one assist and one steal.

The Dinos took a 26-20 point lead at the half. Carbon held on to the lead in the second, putting the game away, 57-41.

Sorenson and Bianco once again were in double digits, putting up 15 and 12, respectively.

Carbon continued its winning ways in the final game of the weekend against tournament host 4A Uintah. The Dino squad held the hosting team to only 27 points, taking the 50-27 win.

Sorenson took her time in the spotlight as she recorded a double double, 15 points and 11 rebounds, en route to the win. She also recorded four assists and one steal in the matchup.

Other score leaders for the Dinos included Noyes with 14 and Saccomanno with 10.

Carbon will continue its road stint in Colorado over the coming week. The road trip will feature three games over three days.
