The Carbon Lady Dinos’ golf team recently competed in its first two tournaments for the year. During these two tournaments, the team placed fourth and third, respectively. The scoring for girls’ high school golf changed to stroke play this year and the first tournament took place on March 7 in Richfield.

During the first round, which took place at the state tournament site, the Lady Dinos finished in fourth with a total team score of 421 for 18 holes. Leading the team was Sam King who scored 95 with Aubrey Fausett following closely with 99. Jordan Bianco recorded 104 and Kirsten Etzel came out with 123.

“We didn’t play to our potential, but the girls realized they could win this region if they do,” head coach Kenji Otani said.

Providence Hall hosted the second tournament at the Mountain View Golf Course on March 14. This tournament was shortened to nine holes due to the weather. CHS posted 202 and earned third place in the tournament, moving to the third slot in region.

Again, the team was led by Sam King who recorded 45. Jordan Bianco was close behind with 49. Aubrey Fausett and Jessica Hansen also ended well with scores of 50 and 58, respectively.

“We had a better showing, but we needed the win,” Coach Otani said. “Now, we have a hard row to hope to challenge for the region title. I’m proud of the girls; they are getting better and Sam has stepped up.”

The Lady Dinos are currently competing in another tournament that will last until March 23 and is hosted by Delta.
