On Monday, Carbon opened up the week against a talented Grantsville team. The Lady Cowboys came out swinging and gained a three-point lead after one quarter of play.
The Lady Dinos fought hard to stay with Grantsville, but trailed by four at halftime (26-22) and five by the end of the third quarter. Grantsville was extremely comfortable offensively, and shot 51 percent from the field on the night. The Lady Cowboys opened up the game in the fourth and took it, 52-41.
Maison White had a game-high 17 points, going 7-11 (64%) from the field for Grantsville. Makenna Blanc also had a good night shooting, ending with 15 points and finishing 5-9 (56%) from the court. Both teams struggled with turnovers as Grantsville surrendered 31 to Carbon’s 29.
One big difference in the game came on the boards. The Lady Cowboys out rebounded Carbon 35-20. One of Carbon’s bigs, Madi Orth, was in foul trouble throughout the game and ended up fouling out with just two rebounds, well under her season average. As the two groups work through region play and polish up their games, this could be an intriguing rematch come state tournament time.
The Lady Dinos did not have any time to lament as they were back on the court on Tuesday night to play South Summit. Carbon controlled the game from the opening tip and outscored the Lady Wildcats 19-3 in the first quarter.
It was never truly close as the Lady Dinos’ defense smothered South Summit and held them to just 31 points in the contest. Blanc again was hot from all over, scoring a game-high 23 points. Madi Orth had a great game with 19 points while Sydney Orth led the Dinos in rebounds with eight. Janzie Jensen continued to show poise from the point guard position and ended the game with seven assists.
Carbon (6-1) will wrap up the week against Mountain Crest (4-2) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
