The Carbon Lady Dinos went 5-1 in the 2A/3A March Warm-Up in St. George over the weekend. Their only loss marked their first of the season.
In three games Friday, Carbon outscored its opponents 33-5 en route to three wins. The Lady Dinos started out with a 16-0 thrashing of Beaver. Katie Basinger homered and doubled in the game. McKenna Sorensen picked up the win in the circle. Carbon then turned around and beat Lincoln County, Nev. by a score of 8-4. Sorensen was again the winning pitcher with Desi Lantz, Lauren Rice and Sidney Ho each contributing doubles. In the final game on Friday, Carbon went up against Desert Hills. Alex Thayn nailed a home run and Cyene Bigelow tripled and Sorensen doubled in the Lady Dinos’ 9-1 rout of the Thunder. Taylor Passarella pitched Carbon to the win.
Carbon began Saturday with a stomping of Summit Academy 19-4. Sariah Powell got the win for Carbon and Chandelle Nichols, Basinger and Passarella each doubled. Sorensen started on the mound for Carbon in its matchup with Grand, a team it beat 4-3 on March 13. Sorensen pitched a strong game, propelling the Lady Dinos to the tough 5-3 win. In its final game of the weekend, Carbon squared off against Region 15 foe Juab. Juab, fresh off its first loss of the year, came out strong against the Lady Dinos, winning the game by a 12-0 final score. Makenna Pendergrass and Basinger doubled in the loss. Kinley Nelson was credited with the loss in the circle.
Carbon (9-1, 0-0 Region 12) will begin region play Wednesday at home against Payson (6-3, 0-0 Region 12).
