Katie Basinger hit five 3-pointers to spur the Carbon Lady Dinos to a big win against the second-ranked Emery Spartans Friday night, 52-36.

Emery’s Hannah Dyer hit two 3-pointers to start the game, but the Lady Spartans’ 6-3 lead would soon dissipate as Carbon upped its defensive pressure and led after one quarter of play, 19-10. The Dinos would lead by as many as 19 points late in the game.

Basinger led all scorers in the game with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Shelby Cornforth chipped in 16 and seven rebounds and Jordan Scoggins put in nine.

The leading scorer for Emery was sophomore Camery Johnson, who came off the bench to score 16. Dyer, plagued by foul trouble early, tallied 8.

The Lady Dinos avenged an earlier defeat on Dec. 19 to the Spartans, 40-32. The two teams also split games a year ago.

With the win, Carbon improved its record to 8-9, with a 1-2 mark in Region 12 play. Emery had its nine game win streak snapped, dropping its record to 13-3, including a perfect 5-0 record in Region 15 action.

Carbon will travel to Payson on Tuesday, while Emery will make the long journey to San Juan Thursday.
