Carbon opened the season with a pair of home matches on Monday and Tuesday.
Union was in Price on Monday to take a dominating 5-0 victory over the Lady Dinos. Lindsey Snow fell 1-6, 0-6 to Summer Price in first singles. Nicole Swasey lost to Mady Costello in second singles, 2-6, 4-6. In third singles, Ana Maria Olivas won the only game of the day for the Dinos but ultimately lost the match 4-6, 7-5, 1-6 to Eliza Beales.
First doubles partners Alex Cartwright and Kaydance Scovill lost 5-7, 5-7 to Riley Richardson and Lauren Harkinson. Rhiannon Haslam and Alyssa Ellis fell 2-6, 2-6 in second doubles to Clare Staker and Kristen Hanke.
Tuesday’s matchup with Maeser Prep was an improvement, but Carbon was unable to come away with the win. Snow lost 6-7 (4-7 tiebreak), 0-6 to Mona Ueno in first singles. Swasey was bested by Kesey Ortega in second singles 2-6,1-6. Lizzy Blackburn got her first win of the year in third singles with her 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Madilee Gulbrandson.
Cartwright and Scovill found success with a 6-3, 6-4 sweep against Mia Parkinson and Sydney Sevy in first doubles. Olivas partnered with Ellis in second doubles but fell 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Megan Grant and Clare Perkins. The Lady Dinos lost a close one, 2-3.
Carbon will be on the road on Wednesday to face Ben Lomond and Bear River. Then, on Thursday, the Lady Dinos will complete in the Cache Valley Tournament.
