The Carbon Lady Dinos handily defeated the North Sanpete Hawks 49-34 Thursday night for their fourth Region 12 victory.
Lindsey Blanc led the Lady Dinos with 12 points. Sara Morley also had 12 and added seven rebounds. Desi Lantz scored seven and Cyene Bigelow and Chandelle Nichols chipped in five points apiece.
Both team struggled offensively to begin the game. Carbon finally got on the scoreboard at the 5:10 mark on a Bigelow put back. The Lady Dinos led after one 10-4.
Lantz opened the second with a bucket to increase the Carbon lead to 12-4. Morley scored her first basket on the next possession for the Lady Dinos’ first 10-point lead of the game. After taking an 18-9 lead at 3:50 on a Bella Barney jumper, the Dinos scored just two points the rest of the half. Another Bigelow bucket with 40 seconds left gave Carbon a 20-11 lead going into the break. The Lady Dinos held the Hawks to 11% (2-18) shooting in the first half.
Carbon had its biggest quarter of the game in the third as Blanc and Morley opened up the period with back-to-back buckets to take a 25-11 lead. The Lady Dinos led by 19 by the end of the quarter.
North Sanpete responded late in the fourth as both teams were in foul trouble. The Hawks outscored the Dinos 17-12 in the period. Carbon led by 23, 41-18, early in the quarter before North Sanpete chipped away at the free-throw line.
Carbon (17-2, 4-1 Region 12, #5 in 3A) will play the next two games on the road next week, Tuesday at Richfield (10-6, 3-1 Region 12) and Friday at Canyon View (2-15, 1-3 Region 12).
