Lady Eagles Take First Win of Young Soccer Season

The Utah State Eastern women’s soccer team defeated Colorado Mesa University Club 5-0 on Friday in Grand Junction. The victory gives them their first win of the season and their first road win as well.

Freshman Abigail Barnum led Eastern with two goals off of two shots attempted.

Leading the team in shots was sophomore Taryn Pritchett who finished the game with six shots and one assist.

Freshmen Amanda ManwillAlyssa SpillettSierra Thompson and sophomore Rachel Neff all chipped in with a goal a piece.

Sophomore Shyann Jones and freshman Payton Carlson each spent time in goal for Eastern. Jones finished the game with a team-high two saves.

USU Eastern head coach Ammon Bennett said that although they got the win, there is still some work to do before their next road trip.

“The game was a bit lackluster on our end but we were able to create some nice chances,” said Bennett.

Eastern will travel this weekend down to Henderson, Nev. to take on Grand Canyon University Club on Thursday and Sheridan on Saturday.

USU Eastern will open its home conference schedule on Sept. 15 against Salt Lake Community College.
