Continuing region action, the Green River Lady Pirates managed two victories last week while facing a loss Tuesday against Whitehorse.

In facing off against Pinnacle on Jan. 25, the team managed to lead the entire game, ending it with a 41-21 victory over the Lady Panthers.

The next victory for Green River was a close 34-33 win against Whitehorse.

The Raiders opened the game flying past Green River, ending the second with a 21-11 lead. The lead continued into the third where both teams put up nine to bring the score to 30-20.

Green River exploded in the fourth, however, putting up a high 14 and holding Whitehorse to just three points and, in doing so, the Lady Pirates grabbed the overall victory.

Green River’s tilt against the Altamont Longhorns, however, was played to a different note. The Lady Pirates opened the match with a three point lead heading into the second. Altamont responded quickly, however, changing the tables and ending the second 28-25. Green River never took their lead back and handed the victory over, 57-50.

Lady Pirate Maribel Escalante shone throughout the action, netting a combined 52 throughout the three-game streak, landing at least 20 points in the last two. She also led in 3-pointers, sinking 10 during the bout.

Daniela Mendez also offered a combined 18 and two threes with teammate Savannah Williams netting 25. Cecilia Trejo also offered 14 for Green River and two threes.

Green River will next face off against Monument Valley on Friday in hopes of taking another region victory.
