The Emery Lady Spartans weren’t going to let last year’s first-round exit ruin their matchup with Maeser Prep Friday morning to kick off the 2016 2A Playoffs. Emery beat Maeser Prep 52-46.
The Lady Spartans raced out to a quick lead in the first half and led by 10 at the break. A 9-0 run by Maeser to begin the second half cut the deficit to one, but Emery was able to build the lead back to 10 by the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Lainee Jensen led the Spartans with 19 points, including three threes. Freshman Megan Jensen poured in 18 in her playoff debut. CJ Johnson and Kinlee Toomer each added six points.
Emery will face the winner of the Delta/Waterford in the 2A quarters on Thursday at 4:10 p.m. at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
