The Emery Lady Spartans pounded their way to a 4-1 record in St. George over the weekend, taking wins over Bonneville, ID, 5A Viewmont, Morgan and Eldorado, Nev.
Emery’s lone loss was a 9-4 setback against 4A Hurricane.
Up first on Friday was Bonneville. Morgann Donaldson and Bailey Huggard each went 4-4, with Huggard knocking in four runs. Huggard singled once, doubled twice and homered in the game. Huggard also got the win in the circle after giving up just one earned run in four innings. AdriAnne Childs and Larissa Thompson also registered home runs in the game. The Lady Spartans racked up 20 hits in the game.
Next up was Hurricane. Tied at four going into the sixth inning, the Tigers scored two runs and added three more in the seventh to take the 9-4 win. Megan Dawes went 2-3 in the game with two RBIs, including a double. Childs also added two hits in the game.
Childs then came up big in the Lady Spartan’s next game on Friday a matchup with 5A Viewmont. Tied at six in the bottom of the seventh. Childs singled on a 1-0 count to give Emery the walkoff, 7-6 win. Huggard was again huge at the plate, knocking in three runs on three hits, including two doubles. Carlie Robinson added three hits as well. Addy Healy, Madisyn Alton, Donaldson and Dawes each added two hits apiece. Braileigh Clark got the win after throwing 87 pitches in five innings.
Emery then faced Morgan in its first game on Saturday, taking the matchup in six innings, 11-1. Huggard delivered a complete game four-hitter with seven strikeouts on the mound, picking up the win. Alton went 3-4 with three RBIs, and Healy, Robinson, Raegan Rasmussen and Childs all added two hits apiece in the win.
Against Eldorado in the final game of the weekend, Emery tallied a season-high 26 hits in the 20-2, five inning game. Healy was a home run short of the cycle, going 5-5 with four RBIs, including a three singles, a double and a triple in the game. Alton, Childs and Dawes combined to go 12-14 with nine RBIs. Donaldson and Huggard added three more hits apiece. Huggard also picked up her third win of the weekend in the circle.
In total, Emery tallied 85 hits spanning the five games, leading to 56 runs.
Emery (5-2, 1-0 Region 15) will take on South Sevier twice this week, beginning Tuesday at South Sevier and again against the Rams on Friday in Castle Dale.
