Emery’s Ashton Bell and Kambrie Hinkins continued their hot starts to the season on Wednesday in Gunnison, but the Bulldogs used three innings in which they scored a majority of their runs to beat the Spartans 15-8 in the non-region matchup.
Bell belted another two home runs in the game against Gunnison. That makes four home runs in her past two games. Bell nailed seven home runs last year. Hinkins also bashed a homer, a day after she hit for the cycle in the Lady Spartans’ win over Region 15 foe Grand on Tuesday.
Gunnison scored six runs in the second inning and three and four runs, respectively, in the fifth and sixth. Emery scored two runs in the top of the seventh but faltered in its comeback attempt.
Bell was credited with the loss in the circle, giving her a 1-2 record so far this season. She posted a 10-5 record a season ago.
Emery (2-3, 1-0 Region 15) will participate in the March Warm-Up Tournament in St. George Friday and Saturday. The Lady Spartans will play Aquinas CA. High School on Friday at 10 a.m., against South Summit at noon and then at 4 p.m. against Juab. Emery will then turn around and play Saturday at 10 a.m. against Wasatch and at noon versus Millard.
