Runs of 16-0 and 11-0 to begin the first and third quarters propelled the Emery Lady Spartans to a dominant 81-27 victory over the South Summit Wildcats Thursday night in Castle Dale.
The Lady Spartans outscored their opponents 47-14 in those quarters. Kacelyn Toomer’s 19 points on 8-13 from the floor led four players in double figures. Megan Jensen poured in 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Kinlee Toomer and Makieya Bertuzzi chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.
From the opening tip until the final buzzer, Emery was in full control, all while playing a total of 12 players. The Lady Spartans scored no less than 17 points in each quarter. Emery’s +54 in point differential was the largest of the season thus far.
Emery (6-0, 0-0 Region 14, #1 in 3A) will play at 5A Springville (1-7, 0-0 Region 8) on Friday night.
