Blustery, cold temperatures greeted the Emery Lady Spartans golf team at the Carbon Country Club on April 23 as they competed in the Region 14 tournament. Despite the weather, the team had their best 18-hole team score of the season.
“These girls have been working hard to improve all season. They are a very coachable group and get along great as a team,” head coach Tom Hansen said. “It has been a joy to witness the improvement and skills they have developed.”
At the start of the season, the team had a nine-hole score of 245, or an 18-hole cumulative of 490. At the region competition, the Spartans shot an 18-hole solid team score of 409, an 81-stroke improvement from the first match.
Senior Lainee Jensen led the team with a score of 90. Jensen was also Region 15’s only Academic All State selection and took home sixth overall in the region for the season. The region tournament was the last prior to state, which is slated for May 8 and 9 at Richfield.
The Lady Spartans will enter the state tournament as the number two seed from Region 15.
“I love golf; it’s the best part of my day. It’s so fun to see us all get better everyday,” team member Angie Nielson said.
