It took a couple of quarters but the Emery Lady Spartans found their groove in the fourth quarter Thursday night against Wasatch Academy and cruised to a 48-23 win to conclude their regular season.

The 23 points allowed were a season low for Emery. The Lady Spartans gave up just two points to the Lady Tigers in the third quarter. It was the third time this season Emery has held an opponent to two points in a quarter. The Lady Spartans’ 21 fourth-quarter points were just one point shy of a season high.

After falling behind 3-0 in the opening seconds of the game, Emery used a 9-0 run to get a lead that it would not give back.

Over the second and third quarters, the Lady Spartans would score just 12 points combined while giving up seven to the Tigers. The four points scored by Emery in the third came on two buckets from Cassidy Labrum. Labrum, a senior, led the team with a career-high 11 points, which fittingly came on a night when she was honored with four other Lady Spartans before the game.

Labrum followed her four points in the third with a three pointer to open the fourth that spurred Emery to the huge win.

Ashton Bell, Bailey Rasmussen, Emily Olsen and Lexi Huntington were the other players honored on senior night. Bell finished the game with nine points, Rasmussen had eight, Olsen chipped in nine and Huntington capped off the night with three points.

Emery (12-6, 8-2 Region 15) finished the regular season tied atop the Region 15 standings with North Sevier and South Sevier. All were named Region 15 Champions as a result. After a coin flip Saturday night to determine playoff seeding, North Sevier secured the top seed in Region 15, while Emery nabbed the second seed and South Sevier finished with the third seed.

The first round of the 2A Playoffs will take place Thursday at Orem High School. Emery will take on Millard at 8:10 p.m. The game can be watched live on ETV Channel 10

The 2A playoffs continue the following Thursday at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
