A senior-laden Delta Rabbit team upended the Emery Lady Spartans Thursday night in the 2A Playoffs in Richfield, 53-45. The Rabbits are the 2A defending champions.
With the loss, the Lady Spartans drop to the consolation bracket and will now take on South Sevier on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
In a slow first quarter, no team could find its offensive groove. After Delta opened the game up on a 6-0 run, Emery responded with seven unanswered and led 7-6 after one. It was much of the same in the second with Emery leading at half, 17-13.
After trading buckets for the first five minutes of the third, Delta ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to take the 30-25 lead.
The Rabbits would extend the run in the fourth to 10-2 and would lead by as many as 11 in the period before Emery cut the lead back to single digits before the final horn sounded.
Freshman Megan Jensen led the Lady Spartans with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Lainee Jensen added 10 points and Kacelyn Toomer chipped in seven. As a team, Emery went just 8-18 (44%) from the foul line.
