Lady Spartans Fizzle in Fourth, Lose Home Opener *Video Highlights*

The North Summit Braves outscored the Emery Lady Spartans 21-10 in fourth quarter Friday night, taking the non-region tilt 53-47 to ruin Emery’s home opener.

Megan Jensen scored the team’s first six points of the game to propel the Lady Spartans to the 17-14 lead after one quarter of play. Jensen ended with 18 points in the game to go along with five rebounds.

North Summit tied the game up at 19 at the 4:55 mark of the second in the back-and-forth quarter. Jensen’s bucket with under a minute to go in the half gave Emery the 26-24 lead at the break.

The Lady Spartans equaled their largest lead of the game on a Morgan Hurdsman three with just under three minutes to play in the third, giving Emery the 35-28 advantage. Emery led by five going into the fourth.

The Braves took the lead for good at the five-minute mark on a bucket that made it 40-39. The lead ballooned to nine, 48-37, before Emery hit a few buckets in the game’s final two minutes.

Kacelyn Toomer poured in 14 points for the Lady Spartans, including four three-pointers. Lainee Jensen finished with five points, going just 1-7 from the arc.

Emery (2-1, 0-0 Region 15) will host North Sanpete (1-2, 0-0 Region 12) on Tuesday. The two haven’t played since a 67-66 nail biter won by the Hawks in 2011.
