The Lady Spartans will bring some experience to this impending year on the diamond. Emery will have six seniors including Adri Childs 1B, Raegan Rasmussen 3B, Ambree Bennett OF, Madi Alton OF, Mollee Hurst C and Bailey Huggard P/SS. Bennett and Alton are left-handed slap hitting specialists, which allows them to get a huge jump out of the batter’s box as they run down the first base line.
Huggard will share pitching responsibilities with Braileigh Clark (Jr), Kaylee Price (Jr) and Kaejha Johnson (So). The latter received playing time as a freshman last year. Huggard also marks the first senior pitcher that the Spartans have had in four years.
Manti made it to the semis last year in state while North Sanpete and San Juan have had good teams in the past. “It’s a tough region, [everyone] is so evenly matched,” explained head coach Shaun Bell.
As far as teams outside the region, Grantsville remains a power house as it looks to defend its title. Carbon also made it to the semis last year and is expected to have another good year.
The Lady Spartans will immediately begin region play when they travel down to Grand on Tuesday, March 12.
