The Emery Lady Spartans’ season came to an end Saturday evening as the North Sevier Wolves escaped with the 49-45 overtime victory in the 2A Championship at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

Emery went 1-4 from the free throw line down the stretch in overtime and North Sevier converted 3-4. The Lady Spartans got off a deep 3-pointer, that didn’t draw iron, as time expired, ending in the North Sevier win.

Sophomore Megan Jensen had a monster game, scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, eight of which were offensive. Jensen scored 13 of Emery’s 15 first quarter points and finished the game 9-17 from the floor. Kinlee Toomer chipped in seven points and Lainee Jensen added six on two threes.

In an interesting twist in the game, Kacelyn Toomer, who broke her ankle earlier in the week, played the bulk of the game for Emery. She had two points, four rebounds and two assists. She sat out the previous two playoff games in Richfield.

North Sevier won the title after appearing in three of the last four 2A Championship games, the previous two of which ended in losses.

Emery finishes a stellar 2016-17 campaign, winning 22 games and only dropping two. The Lady Spartans will bring back a starting five that anchored a team that was ranked #2 for most of the season.
