After a combined 29 runs, the Emery Lady Spartans lost a tough contest to the San Juan Broncos Tuesday afternoon in Blanding, 15-14. The Lady Broncos scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to escape with the victory.
Emery had 17 hits in the game. Four came off the bat of Jessica Mason, which included a home run, a double and two singles en route to two RBIs. Five other players had two hits, including Bailey Huggard who homered, and Kelsey Reeve who also bashed a home run. Both players combined for nine RBIs.
Both teams traded multiple leads in the game. San Juan took a 9-7 lead going into the sixth before the Lady Spartans re-claimed the lead with three in the top half of the inning. The Broncos responded with two in the bottom of the sixth and another in the bottom of the seventh to push the game to extras innings. Emery scored two in the eighth but San Juan responded with three of their own to take the region victory.
The Lady Spartans committed 10 errors in the game that resulted in nine unearned runs. Ashlun Clark took the loss on the mound.
Emery (5-6, 0-2 2A East) will play at San Juan (4-2, 3-0 2A East) on Friday.
