The Emery Lady Spartans weathered early and late Millard runs to earn a hard-fought 67-62 win to finish the season in fifth place at the 2A Tournament in Richfield.

After taking a 10-4 lead after a Lainee Jensen three pointer, the Lady Eagles ripped off 15-straight points to take the 19-10 lead. Millard ended the first quarter on a 17-2 run.

Emery responded quickly in the second as freshman Bailey Huggard made a bucket at the 7:08 mark. The Lady Spartans ended the half on a 24-9 run, spanning the first two quarters.

Down 34-28 at the half, Millard scored the first six points of the third to tie the score. Emery coach Lynne Tuttle responded with five freshman subs consisting of Megan Jensen, Bailey Huggard, Morgan Hurdsman and Kinleey and Kacelyn Toomer. Near the end of the period the Spartans had built a 10-point lead, 48-38, and led 50-40 at the quarter break.

The lead would balloon to 15, 55-40, after a CJ Johnson bucket at 6:20 before the Lady Eagles whittled the lead to as few as three, 65-62, by the end of the game.

Huggard led the Lady Spartans with 11 points on 4-4 from the floor. Kacelyn Toomer, Megan Jensen and Bayler Griffin were all next with 10 points apiece.

Emery finishes the year with an overall record of 17-7, including a 9-1 mark in Region 15.
