As Emery descends down the backend of its schedule, the Lady Spartans still have all their season goals in front of them. They continued toward their aspirations and added a pair of region wins for another successful week.

On Tuesday, Emery traveled to South Sevier to take on the Rams. The Lady Spartans gained a 10-point advantage in the opening quarter to go up 15-5. The Lady Rams held tough in the following period to go into half down 27-18. Emery then used a big third quarter (22-14) to put the game out of reach. They went on to win 62-49.

Kacelyn and Kinlee Toomer each had a game-high 20 points. Kacelyn also had six rebounds and four blocks on the night. Megan Jensen followed with 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks of her own. Emery shot 53% from the field and held the Rams to under 40% shooting.

On Thursday, the Spartans were back at it in the Spartan Center where they faced the second place Richfield Wildcats. Both teams struggled to find points in the opening quarter, which hurt the Wildcats more than the Spartans. Richfield could not convert on many open looks and found themselves in an early 12-4 hole. Both teams found a groove in the second quarter but it was Emery that increased its lead to 36-15 at halftime.

Richfield came out blazing in the second half, hitting eight threes in the half. Fortunately for the Spartans, they had already built a substantial lead. The second half was a back and forth affair with Richfield coming out on top in each individual quarter. The Wildcats cut their deficit to 14, 54-40, in the fourth. Emery responded with a three and then stole the inbound pass for an easy layup, which resulted in a quick five points. The Lady Spartans also had several blocks in the quarter to impede the potential comeback. They went on to win their 17th straight game, 69-51.

Kacelyn again led the Spartans in scoring with 25 points. She had another four blocks and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double in the contest. Jensen added another 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks while Kinlee reached double-digits once more with 10 points. The Lady Spartans had 15 team assists and converted 55% of their shots on the night.

Emery (17-0, 8-0 Region 15) will welcome Manti (5-14, 1-8 Region 15) into the Spartan Center on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The Lady Spartans will then travel to play North Sanpete (3-13, 2-5 Region 15) on Thursday, Jan. 31. Both games will be streamed live online while the former game will also be broadcast on ETV Channel 10.
