Having lost their top two scorers from a year ago, the Emery Lady Spartans were in desperate need of offense Tuesday night in the team’s season opener against Uintah. Junior Camry Johnson led the team with nine points as Emery was beaten at home, 35-29.
Despite winning the first quarter 9-8, the Spartans were outscored 22-12 over the next two by the Utes in Emery’s lowest offensive output since the 2012-13 2A state championship game against Richfield, a game in which Emery scored just 27 points. The Spartans got within three points of the Utes, 21-18, midway through the third quarter.
Bailey Rasmussen scored in six points and Ashton Bell and Emily Olsen chipped in five and four points, respectively.
Richfield will be in town Thursday for a matchup with the Spartans in the Spartan Center at 7 p.m. The game can be watched live on ETV Channel 10.
