After hitting 17 threes in a game nearly a year ago and setting a Utah state record in the process, the Emery Lady Spartans hit 12 Thursday night against the visiting North Sevier Wolves, winning the game 73-40.
Junior Lainee Jensen hit seven of the 17 a year ago and nailed another six against the Wolves Thursday night. Sophomore Kinlee Toomer added three more and Kacelyn Toomer, Morgan Hurdsman and Hailey Jo Allred each chipped in another for 12 total.
After North Sevier took an early 6-5 lead, the Lady Spartans went on a 27-5 run spanning the first and second quarters, including a 15-0 run to begin the second. Jensen hit three of her six treys in the second quarter alone. The Lady Spartans led at the half 44-23.
A rejuvenated North Sevier team scored seven of the first nine points of the third before Jensen hit another three and Megan Jensen added two free throws to push the lead over 20, 51-30, at the 3:05 mark of the quarter. The third would end with Emery up big, 54-33.
Kinlee Toomer poured in nine of her career-high 19 points in the fourth to help Emery lead by as many as 33 points during the quarter before she exited the game for good at the 4:20 mark with her team up 63-36. Kinlee was 4-8 from the field and perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Megan and Lainee Jensen teamed up for 32 points, 18 for Lainee and 14 for Megan. They shot a combined 10-19 from the field. The duo also added 10 boards and four assists. Megan Jensen also had three blocks as well.
Emery (12-1, 3-0 Region 15, #2 in 2A) will host San Juan (7-5, 2-1 Region 15) on Tuesday. San Juan beat Gunnison and Grand for its two wins while losing to North Sevier 64-32.
