The 3.5-hour trip to Blanding made no difference to the Emery Lady Spartans Thursday night as they used a 14-4 first quarter to win their Region 15 opener against San Juan, 51-31.
Thursday’s win marked the tenth straight season Emery has won its region opener. Its last loss came in the 04-05 season when Carbon, then in the same region as Emery, beat the Spartans 49-45. The Dinos went on to win the 3A championship that year.
Ashton Bell led Emery with 11 points and co-led in rebounds with seven. Bailey Rasmussen chipped in nine points and seven boards to go along with four steals. Nine total Lady Spartans scored in the game.
Emery (5-4, 1-0 Region 15) will host North Sevier (7-5, 0-1 Region 15) on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
