Leading by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Emery Lady Spartans easily won their home opener versus Manti Tuesday night, 52-41.
The Templars, though, cut Emery’s lead to just six with 38 seconds remaining after multiple Spartan turnovers. The score at halftime was 28-20.
Emery started sluggish to begin the game, but after falling behind 9-6 late in the first quarter, coach Dean Stilson initiated a full-court pressure defense that quickly turned the lead in Emery’s favor. The team went on a 16-0 run and never looked back.
Emery (2-1, 0-0 Region 15) will host Beaver (4-1, 0-0 Region 13) and Delta (2-2, 0-0 Region 13) Thursday and Friday, respectively.
