A lightning strike started a fire in Spring Canyon on Friday. The fire became more active in the following days as crews work to contain the blaze.

According to Rudy Sandoval, the fire management officer for Southeast Utah, the fire was essentially contained on Saturday after the strike the previous day. The blaze cooled and was being closely managed, but dry, hot and windy conditions caused the fire to flare on Tuesday.

Now, the fire is covering approximately 25 acres, according to Sandoval. Currently, engine crews are on scene. A total of four, single engine air tanker drops will take place on Tuesday before a helicopter responds in the evening to fight the fire with water buckets.

Thus far, there have been no road closures in relation to the fire. However, road construction by Carbon County has impeded some traffic.
