A fire in Hardscrabble Canyon has burned 15 acres of private property following a lightning strike on Monday.
“We are aware of a fire up Hardscrabble Canyon,” the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office shared on Monday afternoon. “Thank you for all the reports. We will keep you updated as we get more information.”
According to Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood, the fire was ignited by a lightning strike on Monday afternoon. As of Tuesday morning, 15 acres had burned and crews were continuing to work to extinguish the fire. One helicopter and one firetruck have been dedicated to the fire with the helicopter doing most of the work due to rough terrain.
On Tuesday morning, smoke was not visible, according to Jeff Wood. The sheriff’s office will continue to post updates on its Facebook page as they become available.
