Press Release
The Bureau of Land Management’s Fillmore Field Office will reopen the Little Sahara Recreation Area Visitor Center Aug. 24. Operating hours will be from Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The visitor center closes seasonally in mid-summer, due to high temperatures and decreased visitation.
“The BLM is privileged to manage Little Sahara for all Americans, and it is our pleasure to serve our visitors and local communities,” said Fillmore Field Office Manager Michael Gates. “We invite the public to come out, bring your off-road vehicles and enjoy the sand during the cooler fall season.”
With an $18 per vehicle per night fee, visitors can access Utah’s “Largest Sandbox” to enjoy 60,000 acres of sagebrush flats, juniper-covered hills, free-moving sand dunes and the iconic Sand Mountain.
When the visitor center is closed, visitors can pay fees at the self-registration station at the entrance road – the recreation area’s riding areas, campgrounds, bathrooms and water stations remain open for public use.
In 2015, recreation activities on BLM-managed lands generated $527 million and supported 4,900 jobs in Utah.
