Local boy scouts could be found throughout Carbon County Saturday morning as they gathered bags and boxes filled with non-perishable food. This is a statewide event and is known as Scouting for Food.

This year, 8,215 pounds of non-perishable food was collected in Carbon County just on Saturday. This surpassed last year’s total of 3,973 pounds by almost 5,000. As of Tuesday, the total went up to 8,605 pounds due to people bringing in bags of food that the scouts did not have a chance to grab.

Donations included a variation of canned foods, ramen noodles, cereal, drinks and even baby food. All food that was collected will be distributed to the clients at the local food bank.

Individuals are welcome to take donations into the food bank directly at any time.
