Social media profile pictures began changing and the hashtag “#playonethan” sprang up Sunday night and continued throughout the week as Castle Country mourned the passing of Emery High Senior Ethan Winter.

In a reflection of the holiday spirit and the small-town way of life, several businesses and organizations responded in their own ways: offering hope and help to the Winter family.

Frayed String Archery, one of the businesses involved, put together a raffle to raise funds for the family. The raffle includes a Mission Hype bow, which adjusts 19-30” draw and 15-70 pounds. The bow was donated by the O’Neil families.

What started as a bow was added to by other businesses in Emery County. The Brett West family donated a 10-pheasant hunt from Brown Dog Birds as well as Ungerman’s Meats & Taxidermy, which donated a $50 meat pack.

The raffle will continue until Dec. 20. Those interested may purchase raffle tickets in person or via Facebook at $5 a ticket or five tickets for $20.

Also, the business has a stock of specialized arrow wraps dedicated to Winter. The wraps come in a variety of colors and feature a picture of a soccer player as well as Winter’s name. Any profits made from the selling of wraps from now until Christmas will be donated to the Winter family.

The business may also be reached at (435) 384-3393 or by searching “Frayed String Archery” on Facebook.

Naturally Inspired, another local business based in Emery County, is offering another way for locals to help the Winter family.

The business, which specializes in personal care products, is happy to announce that any proceeds from the selling of raspberry, strawberry, mango, watermelon or spearmint lip balm will be donated to the Winter family.

Similarly, any who purchase $20 worth of lip balm will be entered into a drawing for a full, signature skin care holiday set.

The set, whose inspiration is spiced cranberry and is a $50 value, contains an eight-ounce scrub, an eight-ounce body butter, a two-ounce lotion bar, a four-ounce bath bomb, eight-ounces worth of hand soap, a four-ounce bar soap and a two-ounce wax melt.

Orders will be taken until Monday and can be placed by searching for “Naturally Inspired” on Facebook.

Several student-based organizations have also chipped in, with the Emery High swim team running a fundraiser by selling pies and the cheerleaders planning activities as well.
