If you’ve headed south recently on Highway 10, you may have noticed a local’s presence on one of the billboards in town.
Carbon County resident and owner of Groggs Pinnacle Brewing Company Marty Beckman is featured on the advertisement, which features his testament on quitting tobacco.
Debbie Marvidikis, health educator for the Southeast Utah Health Department, explained the process behind the sign.
“Every year we try to promote a local person who’s quit,” Marvidikis said.
The educator further explained how Beckman attended the department’s freedom from smoking class and was successful in kicking the habit.
Another plus for the community, according to Marvidikis, is the fact that by promoting local citizens and their stories, it inspires others to do the same.
