The Utah State Library, in partnership with the Utah Educational Savings Plan, sponsors a sweepstakes each year called BookYourSummer that encourages children to participate in a summer reading program and parents to save for their children’s college education.
Each year, four participants are chosen at random, one each from four regions throughout the state, to receive a $1,000 scholarship award. The winner’s home library or bookmobile also receives $500 to spend on materials.
Seven-year-old Braleigh Bentley of Helper was one of the four winners in 2017. According to her mom, Brittany Bentley, Braleigh is a clever girl who thrives on learning new things and doing her best. She likes going to school, loves reading, and all things science.
Braleigh attended every week of the Helper Library’s 2017 summer reading program and regularly goes to the library to check out new books. Some of the chapter book series she enjoys reading are “Magic Treehouse,” “Judy Moody” and “Weird School.” When she grows up, she wants to be a scientist and an astronaut.
Congratulations Braleigh!
