The Huntington Heritage Days Rodeo Queen contest took place on June 1. There were two categories in the contest: princess, for ages 14 and under, and queen for ages 15 and over.
The girls that took part in the competition were required to perform reining patterns on their horses as well as answer a slew of questions for the judging panel. In this year’s rodeo queen contest, there were two girls trying out for each age group.
The winner for the Huntington Heritage Days Rodeo Princess category was local Oaklee Jessial Hopes. Hopes is 10-years-old with a horse named Newt that she has been riding since she was four. Hopes now gets to be in the grand entry for the rodeo that will take place on June 24 and 25 as well as the Heritage Days Parade.
“We are so proud of Oaklee for her time and dedication she put into her horse and preparing for this event. Together, they are truly an amazing team!” said Oaklee’s mother Ashton Hopes.
