A number of Mont Harmon Pirates made the short trip from their middle school to the Desert Lake Waterfowl Management Area near Elmo on Friday for a hands-on lesson unlike any other thanks to the local DWR chapter.

A total of 70 pheasants awaited the students Friday afternoon who proceeded to catch a number of them and prepare them to be released near the area. Students were able to learn a bit about the history of pheasants in the area as well before catching the pheasants and, later, releasing them.

Students participating included members of the school’s science club as well as other members of the student body.
